Wildflower Composers aims to amplify the voices of gender-marginalized composers and work toward a more equitable future for contemporary music.

What We Do

We offer an annual Wildflower Composers Festival, which takes place at Temple University in Philadelphia, PA. During the two-week program, our composers engage in coursework with core instructors, workshops with performers, and private composition lessons. Each student composes a new work for the festival, which is premiered and professionally recorded at our final concert. We serve composers who identify as part of the gender-marginalized community, which includes cis-women, trans-women, trans-men, and nonbinary persons.

In recognition of the various social, geographic, financial, or opportunistic barriers that may prevent young musicians from gaining access to compositional resources and/or training, we do not require our applicants to have any previous experience with composition in order to attend. It is our hope that our students graduate from our festival having gained valuable knowledge, access to musical and human resources, a tangible, high-quality recording of a new work, and a supportive network of fellow gender-marginalized composers that far outlasts the two-week festival.
