Mission

Umoja Debate Team is a nonprofit organization based on the West Side of Detroit, MI. The goal of the organization is to teach students ages 12-15 how to debate and give them opportunities for self-expression, while teaching:
Positive conflict resolution skills
The importance of unity
Confidence in public speaking
Increasing Literacy: Becoming skilled readers, writers, speakers, listeners, and thinkers

What We Do

We teach Detroit youth how to gain positive conflict resolution skills and gain confidence in public speaking through the practice of debate.
