Mission

The Rivera Memorial Foundation, Inc. exists first and foremost to develop the full human potential of its participants by fostering their intellectual, social, economical, emotional, moral and spiritual growth.

What We Do

Our organization, founded in 1990, is serving the Greater Waterbury community with our services for at risk and low income youths and their families. We offer all of our programs to any families who register despite their social economic status. We offer year round programming and college scholarships.

Our Bridge After School Program serves over 60 students in grades K thru 12th. We have collaborated with several schools for bus drop off to our site. Our program offers a low cost alternative for after school care where students are provided with homework help, tutoring, peer mentoring, educational and recreational activities. Students in the program participate in the Crazy 8 Bedtime Math Club, ScootPad Online Educational Platform and science workshops with Flanders Nature Center. Our High School Internship Program offers high school students a stipend to work with the students in our after school program. Interns participate in weekly finance workshops and are required to volunteer one day a week.

Our organization also runs a licensed summer enrichment day camp, Camp Fire, where children are exposed to educational and recreational activities to their maintain their basic literacy and math skills. The summer enrichment program serves over 75 youths. The program runs workshops for our youth in collaboration with the local police and fire department, Literacy Volunteers, Girl Scouts and local restaurants.

The organization also provided various sporting activities for area youth. The most popular are our Youth Basketball League and Rivers & Hughes Southend Cheerleaders. Both programs offers the opportunity to youth to participate in programs without having the to pay the high costs associated with the sports. Youth in the programs are provided with volunteer coaches whom provide basic training and positive support to improve the skills of the youth involved.
