Our mission is to prevent child abuse in all its forms, with a focus on programs and policies that stop abuse before it has a chance to start.

What We Do

Prevent Child Abuse New York believes that the best way to combat child abuse is to create communities where families can access supports and resources to address the social, emotional and physical health of their children.

Through our programs, we work toward a statewide commitment to the healthy development and successful futures of New York’s children and families. We provide leadership to develop laws and programs that protect children, train thousands of volunteers and professionals to support families, and help people find services their families need. Our programs include:

The Parent Helpline, statewide and toll-free at 1-800-children, helps struggling families solve their problems, exploring their options and connecting them to sources of help.

Healthy Families New York Training and Staff Development enables agencies across the state to provide home visiting services proven to prevent abuse and improve children’s health and educational outcomes.

The New York State Parenting Education Partnership involves hundreds of parenting educators in projects to increase the availability of high quality programs to build parents’ skills and knowledge.

Kids Can’t Wait, our legislative advocacy campaign, has had significant successes establishing and saving funding for the state’s leading prevention programs.

The New York Partnership for Child Sexual Abuse Prevention brings together state leaders to implement an evidence-based prevention project, the Enough Abuse Campaign.

Our Annual NYS Child Abuse Prevention Conference, widely considered one of the best in New York, connects service providers with the education, inspiration and solutions they need to better serve families.

The Prevention Network offers all New Yorkers opportunities to take action to prevent child abuse, through public education materials and campaigns, like Pinwheels for Prevention, and local organizations who carry our messages to their communities.
