Our mission is to provide conscious counsel to local government public servants and deliver real-world expertise to help them navigate complex issues, increase their capacity, and build trust in their communities.

What We Do

The Institute for Local Government (ILG) is a civic leadership non-profit organization focused on improving local government. Through hands-on education and training, we provide conscious counsel to public servants to make meaningful change from the inside out and re-build trust. COVID-19 highlighted the vital role of local government in helping or hurting a community. Ensuring that public servants have the best education, training, connections and tools available is essential for everyone's success. ILG helps local leaders tackle their communities' most pressing and evolving issues, including: Workforce Development & Civics Education, Leadership & Governance, Public Engagement & Climate Action
