Mission

The Housing Rights Committee of San Francisco has been supporting tenants most at risk of evictions - immigrant families, seniors, non-english speakers, people with disabilities - in private and subsidized housing for the last 40 years through direct services, advocacy, and educational campaigns that ensure all tenants in SF regardless of language know their rights.

We work to preserve and expand renters rights, improve conditions for renters and increase affordable housing in San Francisco.

What We Do

- Housing counseling to support tenants in private and public housing respond to evictions, rent increases and habitability issues

- Door-knocking and other outreach tactics to connect neighbors and help establish tenant associations.

- Develop, lobby and implement stronger tenant protections that update what already exist, closes loopholes, and create new policy solutions as the housing crisis evolves.

- Take on individual eviction defense campaigns when needed to ensure someone stays in their homes.

- Establish and anchor tenant rights coalitions at the local, regional, state and national level that ensures the movement for affordable, dignified and community controlled housing is strong.
