Mission

Millions of daughters are eliminated every year simply because they are girls in a context that prefers boys. We want to change that.

What We Do

Give Her Life is a a new and innovating research and advocacy project seeking to prevent the elimination of daughters among families who are pressured to have sons. We believe that healthy and empowered women and families are key to fruitful and stable societies, and consequently that the killing of unwanted girls undermines the immense potential not only of girls, but also of their communities and nations. We advocate for the life and dignity of girl children, and we are moving towards building social enterprises that release families from economic pressures that cause gender violence.

Our current objectives include:

1. RESEARCH – To understand the contexts, processes and results of sex selection and the impact that sex selection has on families, communities and nations.

2. ADVOCACY – To create awareness of hope for girls at risk of sex selection, and to invite everyday people to help break the cycle of sex selection.

3. PARTNERSHIP – To connect with journalists, activists, academics and other NGOs fighting to break the cycle of sex selection and work together to effect greater change.

Although the loss of life is grievous and the consequences of gender-selection are staggering, the deepest motivation of Give Her Life is not outrage at injustice but an unwavering belief in the possibility of a different future—one where women are given a chance to exist, their innate value is respected, and they are able to fully contribute to their families, communities and world.
