Mission

Folk Arts Rajasthan a NYC nonprofit organization is dedicated to securing a just and viable future for the Merasi of NW India, a traditionally disenfranchised clan of hereditary musicians. Social marginalization puts their community and ancient cultural legacy at risk. Working in partnership with Lok Kala Sagar Sansthan, a registered Indian nonprofit, FAR supports two of the pillars to enable the Merasi to perpetuate their unique Intangible Cultural traditions and improve their quality of life: music & education.

What We Do

The FAR-LKSS collaborations focus on Literacy and Musical Preservation programs. Attending the Merasi School program, children who would otherwise be denied dignity and respect, receive an education to achieve basic numeracy and literacy in English and Hindi.

Music Merasi classes ensure that the community's ancient cultural heritage will be passed on to its youth and they can celebrate their heritage with new possibilities and equity.
