Mission
Our mission is to help underprivileged children discover and develop their potential for leadership through programs that encourage self-esteem, compassion, cultural awareness, and a sense of being connected to the wider world. What We Do
Camp Ohana Foundation is a United States based 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization focusing on the development of underprivileged children in rural Kenya into compassionate adults who can compete and thrive in the global economy.Underprivileged children are normally marginalized by the society. Camp Ohana reaches out to these children and teaches them that they can be co-creators of their reality instead of living in desperation. Camp Ohana uses education as a tool to empower the children. Through focused programs, children are able to see their transformation from a desperate situation to a positive outlook. The children learn that they have a role in shaping their lives, no matter their circumstances. These children will with time, transform their respective societies into vibrant self sustaining communities as they grow up.
Special attention is given to young girls by providing a mentoring program where successful women in various careers mentor the girls. This program has attracted several international volunteers as can be seen at our website
Camp Ohana Foundation programs are delivered in partnership between Camp Ohana and the local community. The main objective is to help the local residents to be masters of their own destiny rather than relying on handouts from the organization. This extended communal setting embodies Ohana – which stands for family and hence the name of our Foundation
The foundation has accomplished this through localized, community sanctioned programs such as:
• educational programs,
• recreational programs,
• poverty alleviation programs,
• health services,
• Social programs and
• sustainable economical activities
Camp Ohana is fully run by volunteers and 95Cents per Dollar raised goes directly goes towards the children’s programs. This model results in Camp Ohana Foundation running it’s programs through small monthly donations from it’s well wishers.
