What we need
  • Setup of selected accounting software (e.g. Aplos, Araize)
  • Training and guidelines on how to manage system and generate basic reports

Hello! We use Xero as our accounting system, and would like help learning and setting up best practices for using this system, i.e. financial record keeping, tracking our budget, and reporting.

What we have in place
  • We currently have an accounting software, which should make it easy for you to get started. We also have motivated staff keen to set up an accounting system, and the ability to provide any other information you need.
How this will help
This project will save us $5,409 , allowing us to purchase lifesaving harm reduction supplies like naloxone (the medicine that reverses an opioid overdose)

We're a new and growing organization filling essential public health needs during COVID-19. Right now, we have a fiscal sponsor and finished our application for 501c3 status. We're trying to set up as much accounting infrastructure as possible to prepare for becoming an independent 501c3 and could use the help of an expert volunteer with Catchafire!

Prep: Information Sharing
  • Volunteer Manager shares detailed description of existing financial record keeping and financial reporting system
  • Professional makes recommendations on accounting system reports to address the Organization's needs
  • Note: If necessary, Volunteer Manager may have Volunteer sign a Non Disclosure Agreement (NDA) prior to sharing and discussing Organization’s financial information

Milestone 1: Implementation
  • Professional conducts financial data migration
  • Professional and Volunteer Manager check accuracy of migration
  • Professional sets up account admin privileges for Organization’s designated admin users

Milestone 2: Training & Handover
  • Professional provides basic training for Volunteer Manager and supporting staff for tracking and reporting needs including guidelines for continued use of system
  • Professional reviews above guidelines and tips with Volunteer Manager
  • Professional is available for up to two weeks to address questions as Volunteer Manager starts to adopt new bookkeeping system

Our mission

We promote harm reduction by distributing naloxone, fentanyl test strips, and other harm reduction supplies through peer-led programs; advocating for syringe access expansion and equitable drug policy reform; and organizing to build power among people directly harmed by overdose and the War on Drugs.

We work in coalition (which we define as "coming together for combined action") to advance the safety and dignity of people who use drugs, and to make evidence-based harm reduction public health resources widely available in New Jersey.
