Project details

What we need
  • A Membership Strategy document of 2-4 pages, including analysis of the Organization’s current membership program, step-by-step guide to a new or improved program, growth goals and creative outreach strategies
Additional details

The HYPE Club is a peer advocacy group that targets substance use issues, promotes the importance of living a drug free lifestyle, and develops leadership skills through a variety of community and school based initiatives for youth. Recruiting students has been a challenge for us over the past few years & we want to see the club grow to at least 15 students per school. We need a membership strategy that includes engagement through a multitude of traditional and non-traditional strategies.

What we have in place
  • The HYPE Club has an established foundation at both our partnering high schools with administration that supports us. The HYPE Club has a coordinator who also teaches at each high school a program called Too Good for Drugs. The club serves as the youth advisory council of a local coalition. We have a presence on social media through FB, Instagram, and Snapchat. Over the past two years, the clubs have implemented some fairly successful awareness campaigns, activities and initiatives.
How this will help
This project will save us $5,848 , allowing us to create more opportunities for student's ideas to be implemented for their peers. It will help to provide more incentives for students who participate in our club activities & recruitment options.

In addition to Horizon Behavioral Health having the VFHY grant, our coalition is a Drug Free Communities grantee. A huge part of the DFC grant is focused on youth engagement. By the lack of youth engagement we have received, it puts our grant at jeopardy. Youth advocacy empowers teens to let their voices be heard and reach their fellow peers about current trends and issues that highly relate to them, while enhancing their leadership skills. Teens tend to follow their peers words more closely.
