Project details

What we need
  • Significant update to Organization’s existing CMS website, such as adding a new page, customizing a theme, adjusting layout, etc.
  • Smaller update to Organization's non-CMS website
Additional details

Following a website content audit, we have identified areas of our website in need of revision. Our website is currently utilizing a WordPress design theme from 2010. A more contemporary look certainly may be helpful! We intend to continue utilizing WordPress as our CMS. Our biggest goals are to increase accessibility, optimizing navigation, and to provide clear information and resources to our user groups and target audiences.

What we have in place
  • Our website is rich with written content. A website audit conducted by previous Catchafire volunteers provides a map of goals for accessibility, design, performance, security, and social media integration. We also have basic visual branding guidelines. We're also open to suggestions as we evolve the "look" of the FHC brand and website, so those with an extra flair for graphic design may find additional fulfillment in this website update project.
How this will help
This project will save us $4,586 , allowing us to spend more time connecting with our clients directly, hear them more clearly, and providing them a greater sense of security and justice throughout the investigation process.

Our organization first and foremost services clients in a ten-county area in the state of Michigan. Additionally, our website is a frequent landing spot for individuals and professionals alike, searching for detailed resources on tenant rights, information on federal fair housing law, and trends in the arena of fair housing enforcement. It is also important we appeal to potential donors and volunteers, who, like any non-profit, provide so much important funding and labor.

Our mission

The mission of the Fair Housing Center is to end discrimination in housing and public accommodations and to promote accessible, integrated communities.

What we do

We are a nonprofit dedicated to investigating complaints of illegal housing discrimination based on federal, state, and local fair housing laws, as well as resolving reasonable accommodation and modification requests for people with disabilities. Protected classes include race, color, religion, national origin, sex, disability, familial status (the presence of children), marital status, age, sexual orientation, gender identity, and gender expression.

The Fair Housing Center provides investigative services, testing, advice, advocacy, conciliation, attorney referral, and community education in eight counties in Michigan (population 1.4 million.)

Testimonials

My experience working with Phoebe was nothing short of exemplary. We worked on the new website together for nearly two years, and Phoebe put in over 350 hours of volunteer work, saving us over $25K (using the low estimate of $75/hr). She went above and beyond in every way. Phoebe helped with content migration, design, brainstorming, documentation, new data, and more. There were many days we worked together on Google Meet for hours. She and I also met with multiple other Cachafire volunteers on this project (copyeditors, audit, etc.) and she always made everyone feel like a team. Her design and concept work was outstanding- she knew exactly how to portray the modules I was looking for. I love the new website and how easy it is to navigate. Thanks to Phoebe, it will be easier for people to access our services and understand their fair housing rights. I am grateful to Cachafire, the Ann Arbor Area Community Foundation, and the United Way of Washtenaw County for this opportunity.
