Project details

What we need
  • Feedback on the current website’s layout, user functionality, mobile-friendliness, visual design, content, and other key features
  • Clear articulation of the Organization’s goals for the website
  • Recommendations for improvements to help achieve the Organization’s desired goals
  • Note: If you are looking for a more specific, in-depth audit of your website's design and usability, try our Website Usability Audit project
Additional details

We are preparing to overhaul our website - LOWLINC.org - to enable our members (those we provide services to, mostly elderly) and volunteers (who provide these services) and other website visitors (prospects, donors, etc.) to quickly learn what we do, find relevant information easily, and take action (e.g., get membership application, donate, etc.). We are looking for an expert review of our website and assistance in turning our wish list into an attainable plan to proceed with an update.

What we have in place
  • Most of our website visitors are older (70s, 80s). Our Catch a Fire volunteer needs to be sensitive to this. We want to follow many of the guidelines for websites for older adults found at https://www.w3.org/WAI/older-users/developing/. The platform/CMS used is ClubExpress which on the client side uses HTML5, CSS3, AJAX, and jQuery, and AWS for documents/media files. Our site is managed by just a few volunteer board/committee members.
How this will help
This project will save us $4,762 , allowing us to be able to provide services and resources to even more members in the community and help people live independently in their own homes.

Visitors to the current website may have difficulty finding what they want, and new visitors have to click a few times before they gain an understanding of what we do. We've been told our website is "very 1990s" and we want to give it a more modern look and make navigation and actions easier for visitors to better communicate our mission and services. While we have a "wish list," help in prioritizing this list will let us focus our website update efforts where they are most beneficial.

Our mission

LOWLINC is dedicated to enabling older residents of Lake of the Woods to continue living safely and independently in their own homes, with continued connections and engagement in our community.

What we do

LOWLINC volunteers provide a wide variety of services to our membership base including transportation ranging from health provider visits to grocery shopping. Volunteers run errands, provide light home maintenance and handyman services, mail delivery service, technology assistance and in-home visiting. Social and educational activities play a major role in our services. Additional services include referrals to community service organizations and referrals to screened service providers/contractors.

Testimonials

Phoenix was an excellent choice for our website audit - he accomplished the project quickly, and the deliverables he provided were comprehensive and easy to follow. We particularly liked the fact that he had two additional folks in our target user market (adults 65+) review our website and incorporated their feedback into our audit results. He also provided a draft site map giving us an excellent starting point for our website update.
