Project details

What we need
  • Audit of existing Employee Handbook, or internal communications regarding employment policies
  • Edit or creation of a new Employee Handbook, which may include any of the following: Standards of Conduct, Work Schedules, Leave Policies, Termination Policies, Safety and Security, Anti-Discrimination policies, Compensation and Benefits policies, any Non-Disclosure Agreements or Conflict of Interest statements that may apply, and any other pertinent information
Additional details

Scan for racial and gender bias and identify potential tension points/inequities; Update policy language with an eye toward inclusion, especially with regard to gender identity and disability status; Update with information on recent MA law changes including MA Pay Equity and MA PFML; Advise on integrating NEFA vision and values throughout handbook (and policies); Suggest innovative structures that will make handbook more accessible (literally and figuratively), legible, and flexible

What we have in place
  • NEFA has grown tremendously as a business and an organization since our last employee handbook update (2015). Our handbook is now critically out of date due to internal policy changes and changes in MA and federal law. We know a lot about what needs to change in the current handbook, but want an outside/professional eye for further guidance. In addition to the handbook, we will share a number of communications/updates to staff about new or updated policies from the last few years
How this will help
This project will save us $3,380 , allowing us to invest critical unrestricted operating dollars back into our staff

We hope our revised handbook is a more useful document to staff, which empowers them to be educated about the rights and resources available to them through NEFA. We want our handbook to meet our current standards and to reinforce our vision and values. This work will also be an important benchmark in our progress toward completing our organizational culture and capacity goal of our current strategic plan.

Testimonials

Working with Nate was a great experience! I had a lot of various ideas about what I wanted to accomplish with our handbook and Nate helped me distill those into an actionable plan that he was able to run with. I was impressed with the extent of the work Nate did, and the expertise he brought his work and our conversations. I was nervous to put this work into anyone else's hands, but it only took one conversation to recognize Nate had the right instincts to handle this work for our unique organization. The other great thing about working with Nate was that he helped me stay accountable to the work. If I were working on this alone, as had been the plan, it would have been a belabored process subject to major disruptions, but Nate took the lead, proposed a timeline and structure that would work for me, and kept me updated at regular intervals. I highly recommend Nate for any project!
