Project details

What we need
  • Tightly-written web copy of up to to eight pages of 200-300 words each
  • The opportunity to work closely with an experienced, SEO literate copywriter
Additional details

We are doing an overhaul of our website and need someone to help us with some content and SEO. We have an outline of the changes we want to make with our website:. www.coalfieldjustice.org. We are an environmental justice nonprofit and some of the pages we'd like tightly-written copy for include environmental, economic, racial, labor, climate, social, health, and criminal justice, along with just transition. Our focus has largely been on issues surrounding fossil fuel extraction.

What we have in place
  • We currently have an outline of changes and some content written, which should make it easy for you to get started. We also have a functioning website, and the ability to provide any other information you need.
How this will help
This project will save us $6,073 , allowing us to focus more on all of our individual jobs, which include administration, fundraising, organizing, outreach, projects, reviewing policy changes, & talking & working with our members & supporters.

We have worked in SW PA since 1994 on EJ issues surrounding fossil fuel extraction, starting with coal, & now fracking & the petrochemical buildout. In the last 5 years, we have been shifting our focus to include other types of justice, as they are all intertwined, and in order for broad-based, long-term changes to occur, this needs to be the focus. This is also is how different groups can work together effectively to accomplish more than we would ever accomplish alone.

Our mission

To improve policy and regulations for the oversight of fossil fuel extraction and use; to educate, empower and organize coalfield residents; and to protect public and environmental health.

What we do

Our approach for working with area residents values their knowledge about the land, waterways, and communities. We provide community members with detailed information about proposed projects and potential impacts so they can make informed decisions on individual or collective actions. Our recognition of local expertise is grounded in the belief that people who live with the daily impacts of fossil fuel extraction should be treated with the utmost respect. Our work is informed and directed by how local people think these industries should be held accountable for impacts. By blending organizing and legal work, we seek to create an expanded set of options for achieving justice than might be produced by following solely a legal or organizing approach.
