Hiring Strategy
Help United Way of Greater Lorain County build a team of talented and passionate people to help their organization meet its goals with a comprehensive recruitment strategy.
Hiring Strategy
Project details
What we need
- Recommendations on active and passive recruiting and proper channels to pursue candidates
- Guidelines for hiring process, including order and number of interview rounds, reference checks, and general best practices for an inclusive interview
- Effective interviewing techniques and clear, consistent standards for evaluating candidates
- Tips for negotiating details such as compensation package and title
Additional details
We are looking to review our recruitment strategy overall to ensure that we are set up to recruit diverse candidates and that our recruitment documents are accessible. In particular, we are starting the recruitment process for an AmeriCorps position who will be involved in our free tax prep and volunteer engagement programs.
What we have in place
- We can provide past job descriptions and lists of recruitment avenues. We'd love talk through the experiences we've had with recruitment to get a new perspective.
How this will help
This project will save us $10,626 , allowing us to prepare and file more tax returns for low- and moderate-income families and expand our new volunteer engagement initiative.
The AmeriCorps position specifically will greatly increase our capacity as a key role they play is managing volunteers.
Overall, reviewing our hiring practices to ensure diversity & inclusion is important because it is one of our core values, and traditionally we have not had a racially diverse staff. This is a priority for us to represent the community we serve.

Testimonials
Vanessa was a wonderful guide through this project. We started not really knowing what our goals were other than that we needed to identify blind spots and build relationships to diversify our staff and board. She helped us review our policy manual and community resources to put concrete steps together towards this important goal. And two milestones have already been approved by our board! And on top of that, she has an such energizing style that is fun to work with :-)
UWGLC was such a pleasure to work with! Great team passionate about their community and making a difference.
