Project details

What we need
  • Ongoing web development support for 10-15 hours over the course of 4 weeks
  • Support may include: website maintenance, updates or improvements
  • Note: We devised this project to connect nonprofits and volunteers for more flexible, more immediate impact. We strongly suggest you start with 4 weeks and decide from there if you'd like to continue working.
Additional details

We need a web developer to improve our plant management, identification, and maintenance tool. The current site is built on Node JS, Bootstrap, MongoDB, and MapBox.

We need a full stack developer or a back-end developer with some front end ability.

This site is where we index all of the plants, their locations, and allow our volunteers and staff to record observations. This tool is especially useful for our organization to optimize our impact on the environment.

What we have in place
  • We currently have a working site, which should make it easy for you to get started. We also have a clear idea of what we need, and the ability to provide any other information you need.
How this will help
This project will save us $3,757 , allowing us to plant more floating gardens with native wetland plants in the Chicago River.

This project will allow us to measure the impact our floating gardens are having on the environment. The data and observations will inform our research team about the effectiveness of our plant selections and its maintenance practices. It will also serve as jumping off point for future floating habitats in urban rivers. We hope this data collection over time will allow us to source additional funds via grants to bring floating gardens to other cities.
