Manager, Furnishing Solutions

Our mission

Homeless Solutions, Inc. is a private, nonprofit organization that provides outreach services, emergency shelter, transitional housing and permanent supportive housing to families and individuals from the Morris County, NJ area. In addition, Homeless Solutions acquired the Mount Kemble Home in Morristown, NJ which provides affordable housing for elderly single women of very limited means.

What we do

In 1983, religious and business leaders looked out from their buildings and saw people who had no home. They decided that in their community all people should have shelter from the cold and food for the day. In May of 1983 Homeless Solutions was created as a private, not-for-profit, tax-exempt organization. From this humble beginning of providing shelter to men in the manse of a local church, Homeless Solutions has grown into an organization that does so much more.

Today, we run an 85-bed shelter housing men, women, families and the mentally ill. In 1996, the Family Transitional Housing facility was completed and now serves ten families. Here, case management services are offered to residents so that employment and income goals are met, life skills are acquired, and savings goals for placement into independent housing are achieved.

In the 1990’s, the lack of affordable housing emerged as a critical gap in service to the working poor. In order to address this problem, we expanded our mission to include the development of affordable housing thereby completing the continuum of care for the homeless from shelter to independent housing. At this time, Homeless Solutions owns and manages 57 units of affordable rental housing servicing approximately 120 people.

In 2012, in response to cutbacks in government funding and a drop in donations due to the economy, Homeless Solutions decided to open a business to supplement its income stream. Furnishing Solutions, a donations-based furniture resale store, opened its doors in August of that year. Our 16 foot box truck picks up donations three days a week and delivers them back to our 17,000 square foot store. Volunteers unpack, clean, price and sell an array of items to the public. All profits support Homeless Solutions’ programs.

Most recently, Homeless Solutions added The Mt. Kemble Home to its programs. Founded in 1883, Mt. Kemble provides affordable housing for 19 elderly single women of very limited means.
