Project details

What we need
  • Evaluation of current programmatic needs and how a virtual program can address them
  • A written document that summarizes the goals for your remote program, including how it differs from in-person program (if applicable)
  • Recommendations for an appropriate course of action to reach the desired objectives
What we have in place
  • We currently have written descriptions of last years sporting activities, which should make it easy for you to get started. We also have contact information of previous partners, and the ability to provide any other information you need.
How this will help
This project will save us $5,848 , allowing us to purchase new sporting equipment for the youth that participates in the fall program.

This summer we planned on partnering with Carver STEM Academy to teach their K-8th grade students baseball and softball. However, the summer partnership was canceled because of Covid-19. This would have been At Bat's first partnership with a Detroit Public School. Also, this would have been the first school we've partnered with that has an actual baseball field on site. Although, we plan to partner with the school in the fall. We want to give youth and parents something to look forward to.

Our mission

At Bat is striving to increase the number of at-risk youth who participate in baseball and softball by providing free clinics and low-cost programs.

What we do

Baseball and Softball Clinics: Introduce youth ages 6 to 13 to the fundamentals of baseball and softball. Youth engage in pitching, catching, and hitting drills.

After-School Program: During the school year, Kindergarten to 8th grade students learn baseball and nutrition fundamentals, build self-esteem, and apply academic concepts to real-life examples through structured activities.

Baseball and Softball Camp: During the summer, youth ages 6 to 13 engage in baseball and softball drills. We partner with local community organizations where there is a limited amount of or no sporting organizations available within the community. We take pride in giving youth who never had the opportunity to learn baseball and softball a chance.

Testimonials

The passion and zeal that Michael has for the sport of baseball gave his overall work ethic a touch of love. Each weekly meeting he challenged me to embrace new ideas, set goals and learn. Michael's professionalism and productivity help produce a feasible remote program strategy that At Bat is pleased to use.

Delrisha was a pleasure to work with. We had weekly catch ups to discuss the project, which were extremely helpful. She was always very responsive and flexible. At Bat is a great organization that has a strong mission, so it was great to be able to help them on this specific project.
