Project details

What we need
  • A compelling narrative, or set of stories
  • Persuasive copy that can be used in appeals to donors, annual reports, grant applications, and media relations
  • Popular examples: Organization's founding story, a program achievement or milestone, a look back at the past few years, organizational backgrounder, etc.
  • Note: This project is not intended to support your general content planning or marketing but there are several projects in our Marketing & Communications category which are a good fit!
Additional details

We are a primarily volunteer-run nonprofit that believes in educational equity. We support students and teachers in a challenged school district. We send out quarterly e-newsletters, a yearly printed progress report, grant applications, and as-needed messaging updates to our volunteers, donors, and local community. We are hoping you can help us refresh our outbound messaging and narrative.

What we have in place
  • We currently have progress reports, grant app copy, website, info card, which should make it easy for you to get started. We also have longterm staff/leadership to interview, if needed, and the ability to provide any other information you need.
How this will help
This project will save us $3,002 , allowing us to share a compelling story - volunteer recruitment, provide add'l training to current volunteers throughout the year rather than once/yr, continue to support students and teachers in Ravenswood district

We have been using the same language for over a decade. With a new ED, as of last summer, and this gift from Peery Foundation, we have an opportunity to look at how we share our story to volunteers, donors, and the general public. Our work is needed, valuable, and necessary, so our storytelling needs to be compelling. Bottom line, we love the students and teachers we support. The district we work in does not have the funding for the type of support All Students Matter provides.

Our mission

Inspired by the belief that every child deserves an equal opportunity to learn, nearly 200 All Students Matter volunteers work with Ravenswood City School District teachers to support the success of students in East Palo Alto and eastern Menlo Park.

In this California school district, about 65% of the students are English learners, more than 90% are low income, and over 40% are in unstable housing or considered homeless. Our dedicated, trained volunteers are a consistent, caring presence in the lives of these children, working weekly in the same classroom with the same students throughout the school year.

What we do

ASM Provides Three Programs:

* In-Classroom Support - each teacher directs 3-4 trained tutors who volunteer at specified times each week, all school year, to support students in reading, writing or math.

* Literacy Intervention - guided by the school literacy coaches, our trained tutors provide daily structured intervention to improve the literacy skills of selected students.

* Mentoring Book Club - a 12 week program for selected students in each 5th grade classroom designed to foster growth both academically and social-emotionally.

Testimonials

I did not know what to expect as it was my first project through Catchafire, but I couldn't be more pleased.. Sophie was thoughtful throughout this project She had tremendous desire to support the nonprofit realm having had her own experiences volunteering at two in the education sector. For this project, her clarity and care for the mission and vision remained, as I worried that could have gotten lost in translation when working with someone with a different background outside of philanthropy (hers happens to be a successful career at a start-up). We had an open line of communication and were able to have meaningful discussions on the outbound messaging that the nonprofit can potentially use moving forward. It was a really nice partnership.

Storytelling Project

I enjoyed working on this project, from reading everything I could about All Students Matter to discussing which forms of messaging most aligned with organizational values. Sher was supportive throughout the process and gave valuable feedback. I'm glad that there are organizations like this that continue to do so much good for their communities!
