Project details

What we need
  • Analysis of one dataset
  • Document articulating discoveries from analysis
Additional details

Our organization, Pennsylvanians for Modern Courts, trains volunteers to go into Bail Hearings and Housing Court to serve as court watchdogs. They gather both qualitative and quantitative information about case outcomes, court proceedings and issues that they notice as an observer. We are looking for a data analyst to help us analyze the data that we have collected so far to reform our data collection processes and ultimately, to articulate both qualitative and quantitative discoveries.

What we have in place
  • We currently have the observation tools we utilize and volunteers to test them, which should make it easy for you to get started. We also have some qualitative and quantitative data collected, and the ability to provide any other information you need.
How this will help
This project will save us $6,154 , allowing us to devote more resources and time to educating community members about various levels of the court system.

This project is vital to our organization because it informs us of what justice system reforms we need to be advocating for. Additionally, it notifies the community, the legal profession and court administrators of the issues/gaps in the courtroom and how the public views them. Data analysis pulls together our vision and our way to move forward towards a better justice system.

Our mission

Pennsylvanians for Modern Courts is a statewide nonprofit, nonpartisan organization dedicated to ensuring that all Pennsylvanians can come to our courts with confidence that they will be heard by qualified, fair, and impartial judges.

PMC functions as a court watchdog. We identify and speak out on issues that impact the public's confidence in our courts, and then we work proactively, constructively, and cooperatively to reform and modernize the judiciary. We serve as a highly respected information hub for the public, policymakers, the legal community, the courts, and the media. We are a champion of the elimination of bias in Pennsylvania’s courts in all its forms.
