Project details
What we need
- A high-resolution digital version of an illustration that can be used across multiple channels (web, print, and/or merchandising)
Additional details
Create clever, current media content to garner more attention via social media with eye-catching visuals. We want to create cartoons of the canisters used to store nuclear waste at San Onofre Nuclear Generating Station, bringing to life each canister with their respective flaws. The project would include around 15 illustrations of each canister and an image of all the canisters in group design to be posted on social media.
What we have in place
- We currently have photos of canisters and layout of the plant, which should make it easy for you to get started. We also have detailed list of the canister flaws to be illustrated, and the ability to provide any other information you need.
How this will help
This project will save us $4,212 , allowing us to focus efforts on funding scientific studies that advance the issue and covers a months worth of pay for our associate director and program coordinator.
As a group of scientists working on a highly technical issue, we are constantly exploring avenues to make the material and the findings digestible and eye-catching for the public. Creating cartoons depicting canister flaws would provide top-notch visual content for social media and allow our foundation to engage with active community members. This would fill a hole in our nonprofit social media strategy and allow us to continue working on the more technical side of the issue of nuclear waste.

Our mission
The Samuel Lawrence Foundation (SLF) strives to promote human interaction in communities and encourages broader access to science, education, and the arts.
What we do
SLF believes breakthrough change happens by working at the intersection of science, education, and the arts. Standing alone, each area fulfills a vital function. Standing together, they provide for the well-being of the earth and its people.
SLF acts as a "community engagement bridge," connecting local and international groups to move forward with bold vision and actions to address and impact some of the most pressing needs facing our nation and the world.
Testimonials
Monica was freaking awesome! She fearlessly tackled over 15 scenarios depicting highly-technical nuclear waste problems. I was blown away by her ability to understand the issue and to then translate each issue into eye-catching, visually appealing illustrations. I couldn't be more thankful for Monica's help bringing to life this issue.
