Project details

What we need
  • An edited 1-3 minute video delivered in electronic format as agreed upon between the Professional and Organization, with HD quality as a master version, along with any agreed upon formats for final usage
Additional details

Shelter Music Boston is looking for a volunteer to film footage of our September 2019 concerts in homeless shelters and recovery centers and create a short video for sharing with future audiences, donors, prospective funders, on our website and YouTube. This concert series will be the world premiere of the first-ever opera about African American composer Florence Price, who is finally getting the recognition she deserves after decades in obscurity. *Volunteer must be in Boston in order to film*

What we have in place
  • We currently have a schedule of September 2019 concert dates/times/locations, which should make it easy for you to get started. We also have a clear idea of what we are looking for, and the ability to provide any other information you need.
How this will help
This project will save us $5,422 , allowing us to ensure that our limited resources are applied to bringing our concerts to people in need.

Creating a promotional video will be an important way to share our 2019 Florence Price Project and the opera "Florence Comes Home" with future audiences, donors, prospective funders, and the media to demonstrate SMB's impact and unique programming. We hope that a video would extend the impact of these specific performances for our audiences, as well as be used as a tool for media attention and future philanthropic support.

Our mission

Shelter Music Boston presents classical chamber music concerts, of the highest artistic standards, in homeless shelters and other sheltering environments. Our goal is to promote community, creative interaction, respect, and therapeutic benefit. We believe all people deserve access to the dignity, creativity, and passion of classical music whether or not they have a home.

What we do

By producing live classical music concerts in homeless shelters, SMB applies a truly innovative approach to performing classical music and bringing a sense of humanity to individuals living on the margins. Our program serves to enrich the lives of audience members individually as well as to improve the dynamics of interactions in the shelter. In 2017 alone, SMB served more than 1,500 people in nearly 70 concerts. These concerts are the work of highly skilled professional musicians who have performed in concert halls around the world. Teams of two to four musicians, trained in our interactive concert model, are employed to deliver a full-length chamber music concert to our partner shelters. These near monthly visits (10 concerts in each shelter each year) create a sense of community built on the relationships developed between shelter guests, shelter staff, and our musicians. The impact is not merely about the actual performance but about what happens between the shelter guests, the music, and the musicians.
