Our mission

We are a Kenyan-founded health, education, and international development nonprofit agency. Our mission is to build the capacity of the people of North Kamagambo, Kenya to advance their own comprehensive well-being. Our various programs in clinical care, public health outreach, education, and economic development impact a population of more than 20,000 people.

What we do

A snapshot of our approach

Kenyan Ownership: Founded by two Kenyan brothers, we believe that Kenya’s challenges are better addressed by Kenyans. By employing over 125 Kenyans through various programs, LCA works to build Kenyan self-efficacy and community responsibility. US and Kenyan stakeholders collaboratively plan, implement, and evaluate major programs.

Geographic Focus: We focus to make a lasting difference in a single region. In our commitment to the village of Lwala and surrounding communities, we are building up local capacity as a model for other community development projects.

Multi-Dimensional Approach: Healthcare is our core competency, but our programs in education and economic development are essential to our mission of advancing holistic well-being.
- Community Hospital: Opened in 2007 and expanded in 2011, it serves over 1,200 people on HIV care, a life-saving intervention in a community where nearly 1 in 4 people is infected with HIV.
- Safe Babies program: A community health effort to ensure that pregnant women participate in maternal and child health care. The program trained 60 community health workers to help women access essential care. Three years ago, 26% of pregnant women delivered their babies at a health facility with a skilled nurse, now 95% do so.
- Education Programs: These programs reach out to 15 schools with an emphasis on girls, orphans, and vulnerable children. Programs include scholarships, uniform distribution, and installing clean water and sanitation facilities.
- Economic Development Programs: Community members have developed income generating groups, including sewing, soap making, and agricultural cooperative groups. Over 1,650 community members have been trained in sustainable agricultural and applied these skills to increase their crop production.
