This project will save us $3,607 , allowing us to provide more scholarships to people financially and emotionally devastated by cancer to participate in our programs.

What We Need

  • A press kit for the Organization (in print and electronic formats) that includes: mission and vision statement, historical information about the Organization, biographies of senior staff, fact sheet, logo design, supplementary multimedia, any relevant press releases, and contact information for the appropriate staff member at the Organization
  • Press release template for future use
  • Recommendations on how to build relationships with the media

How This Will Help

It's been five years since our first tribe of cancer patients and survivors stepped beyond their stories of cancer to volunteer in India. Since then more than 150 participants have joined A Fresh Chapter for life-changing experiences in India, South Africa, Peru, Costa Rica, and the U.S. We are seeking a talented volunteer with PR/Media experience to help us develop a compelling press-kit. Your creative ideas for capturing our work and your insights for pitching media will help us expand our reach and multiply our impact.

We currently have compelling stories, visuals, and a dedicated team which should make it easy for you to get started. We also have a track record for thinking outside of the box and the ability to provide any other information you need.

Project Steps

Prep: Distribution of Prep Materials
  • Professional and Volunteer Manager connect to discuss the Organization's goals for media coverage, and agree on a detailed scope of work for the press kit (e.g., what documents are needed)
  • Volunteer Manager provides background information, such as mission and vision statement, historical information about the Organization, bios of senior staff, fact sheets, relevant or recent press release, and any supplementary multimedia
Milestone 1: First Draft
  • Professional drafts a press release for actual upcoming announcement, or a template for future use
  • Professional makes edits to any existing press kit materials or drafts new versions, as needed - including revising any existing press releases to match the new template
  • Professional provides draft press kit materials to Volunteer Manager for review and feedback
Milestone 2: Final Draft
  • Professional presents the final version of the press kit materials in electronic format, with instructions for how to arrange the printed version of the documents in a folder
  • Professional provides recommendations for how to use the press kit to meet the Organization's goals for media coverage
Prerequisites for Professional
  • Experience with public relations or communications
  • Excellent writing and editing skills
Prerequisites for Organization
  • Promotional materials (text, photos, images, video, audio) to include in the kit
  • Ability to provide any existing materials (press releases, fact sheets, bios, etc.)

Our mission is to heal the emotional scars of cancer through volunteerism, meaningful travel and programs designed to reframe adversity and redefine what's possible

What We Do

Through both international and U.S. Odyssey programs, A Fresh Chapter (AFC) empowers diverse groups of men and women to step beyond the label of cancer patient, survivor, or caregiver, and into a new world of volunteering, cultural immersion, and personal growth and development. As part of a broader framework of support, our 1-2 week volunteer travel experiences act as a catalyst for helping participants see that struggle is universal and it's possible to heal, connect, and serve others while reclaiming your life. Our programs in the U.S., India, South Africa, Peru, and Costa Rica have contributed more than 13,000 hours of volunteer service while taking positive action against the isolation, anger, depression, fear of recurrence, or survivor guilt often created by cancer. Whether our participants have returned to work with renewed purpose, healed relationships with loved ones, committed to ongoing volunteering, or even made peace with dying, AFC is revolutionizing cancer support while building stronger families and communities and a better world.
