Our mission

Farmworker Justice (FJ) is a national nonprofit organization that empowers farmworkers to improve their working conditions, immigration status, health, occupational safety, and access to justice. FJ uses capacity building, health promotion, leadership development, education, advocacy, and litigation strategies in its work. FJ was founded in 1981 and works with hundreds of organizations including community-based organizations (CBOs), migrant and community health centers and over 300 Latino and Latino-serving organizations across the U.S. FJ’s health related work began in earnest over 25 years ago in response to the identified and expressed needs of farmworkers for improved quality, access, and culturally-competent health and health care services and programs. FJ has a strong history of providing a vast range of capacity-building assistance services and has successfully trained hundreds of community health workers (also known as promotores de salud; PdS) and trainers of PdS around the country and has received awards for the quality of its training curricula. We have implemented PdS programs in environmental health and safety, occupational health, Medicaid and CHIP, and HIV/AIDS prevention, among other priority areas for high-risk farmworker and rural Latino communities across the country.
