Grant Template
Project details
What we need
- Grant Template outlining the Organization’s mission, strategic plan, activities and budget
- Tips and suggestions on customizing Grant Template for specific grants
What we have in place
- We have a highly motivated and committed team. Our organizational staff are survivors of the criminal and immigration systems and use their life experience to improve their communities and influence others to avoid being caught up in the vicious cycle of violence and incarceration. We entrust individuals who have experienced the impact of violence and incarceration in their personal lives to bring their personal knowledge to implementing our programs. We also have drafted a 3-years Strategic planning and some proposals that could be used as templates for grants as well as budgeting samples.
How this will help
This project will save us $5,140 , allowing us to Start a general independent fiscal review or complete a single audit, which is a major requisite to ask for general support funding and improve our financial health.
By getting enough funding for general support: To develop a sense of security and healthier lifestyles for at-risk community members particularly immigrants and formerly incarcerated people through education tattoo removal services and providing their families opportunities to advocate for their incarcerated loved ones. Through 18 years of peace work we have learned to view the intersection between immigration and criminal justice systems in a context and as a problem that is related to environmental social and economic inequalities.
Project plan
Our mission
To end violence and promote peace in our Central American communities through violence prevention and intervention; the promotion of human rights in immigrant communities and the empowerment of youth and families to achieve their full potential in a just, safe and healthy society both in Los Angeles and El Salvador.
What we do
Since 1998, Homies Unidos has served over 7,950 youth, parents and formerly and incarcerated people through tattoo removal, presentations and workshops in schools, community centers, and conferences. Programs are geared to at-risk, gang-involved and formerly incarcerated youth and adults. Participants learn to take control of their lives and neighborhoods, and advocate for social change.
Through the Epiphany Project, a life skills program for at risk youth in schools and formerly incarcerated people, Homies Unidos has graduated over 1,349 young people and adults over the past ten years; approximately 300 have gone through the tattoo removal process with our partner, Sunrise Outreach Center.
Libertad con Dignidad (Liberty with Dignity), brings together individuals, their families, and
leaders of the community to advocate for social change at the local, state and national levels on issues concerning the intersection of criminal justice and immigration policies. We meet once a month with families of incarcerated people to learn about their rights, promote civic participation and advocacy.
We use our Joven Noble program to address issues of acculturation for newly arrived immigrants and refugees, having graduated over 160 young people. To further support newly arrived immigrant youth, we will be launching the fourth Central American Youth Leadership Conference in December 2018.
Youth graduates of the Epiphany Project and Joven Noble are recruited and trained in organizing through our summer youth leadership training. They address issues of immigration and integration through the implementation of the annual Central American Youth Leadership
Conference.
