Project details

What we need
  • A concise, well-articulated letter (not exceeding two pages) to request funds from individual donors
What we have in place
  • We currently have samples of past "friends" letters, which should make it easy for you to get started. We also have many "disclosures" and stories to share, and the ability to provide any other information you need.
How this will help
This project will save us $940 , allowing us to provide bully prevention programs to an additional 100 children.

We have an annual direct mail end of year "friends" campaign and have used the same "template" for the past 15 years. It might be time to mix it up a little. We do great work to prevent child abuse and bullying and keeping kids safe. We need to grow our donor base and make our supporters feel that their donations are truly making a difference.

Our mission

CAPS is a leading volunteer organization dedicated to the prevention of child abuse and bullying, and provider of youth violence prevention and child safety education to school age children. Using the power of professionally trained volunteers, CAPS presents prevention through education programs in classrooms across Long Island. Our Bully Prevention Center provides coaching and strategies to children, families and educators dealing with egregious cases of bullying. Our mission: Working together to keep every child safe from harm.

What we do

Each year Child Abuse Prevention Services (CAPS) touches the lives of more than 40,000 Long Island children with our prevention-through-education programs for elementary, middle and high school students - programs that prevent bullying, child abuse, date rape, sexual harassment and promote Internet safety. Since 1982, our professionally trained community volunteers have been presenting these dynamic cutting-edge programs with compassion and sensitivity, creating “safe havens” in classrooms from East Rockaway to East Hampton, where children feel secure and comfortable to talk about some of the most difficult, sensitive, personal issues affecting their lives.

Our CAPS Bully Prevention Center, launched in September 2010, is an innovative program that responds to the growing needs of parents, children and educators to address the difficult problem of bullying and cyberbullying. This program offers parents a place to turn to for help if their child is a target of bullying; it creates student leadership teams in high schools and middle schools across LI to reduce the incidence of bullying in our schools; it provides parent education workshops on issues of child safety, and professional development for school personnel. And for the past two years, CAPS has been working with educators in schools across the state to implement best practices to fulfill the regulations of The Dignity for All Students Act, NYS’ anti-bullying legislation.

Testimonials

It was great working with Bob. He quickly understood the nature of our organization, and was able to expertly craft a donor letter for us with all the elements we wanted to include. The whole process was quick, painless and professional. I can't wait to see the results of our end-of-year campaign.

Individual Donor Letter Project

Alane was a pleasure to work with. She knew what she wanted the letter to convey and sent me past samples to help me jump-start the project. With 2 quick calls , one draft and one revision we were done. Hopefully this helps increase CAPS donations for their year-end fund drive.
