How This Will Help

American Theater Group is a 4 year old professional theater that was located in Rahway but has moved to South Orange (SOPAC) and needs to replenish our board with more local people.

What We Have In Place

We currently have A Board Job Description which should make it easy for you to get started. We also have a budget for next FY, and a mission statement and a board recrutiment kit and the ability to provide any other information you need.

  • Location: Remote (work anywhere)

Prep: Distribution of Prep Materials
  • Volunteer Manager communicates existing board structure, including background on board members and specific roles or committees, if applicable
  • Volunteer Manager provides relevant materials on Organizational history
Milestone 1: Information Gathering
  • Professional connects with Volunteer Manager and one or more board members to assess specific Organizational needs and goals for board involvement
Milestone 2: Board Structure Strategy
  • Professional outlines strategy for ideal number of board members, and specific roles to be filled
  • Volunteer Manager provides feedback, which Professional incorporates
Milestone 3: Candidate Evaluation Guide and Recruitment Tools
  • Professional outlines key criteria to guide recruitment of prospective board members
  • Professional helps write descriptions of specific board roles to be filled
  • Professional provides any guidance on potential recruiting channels
Prerequisites for Professional
  • Executive level experience in business or nonprofit management, board development, or senior leadership hiring
  • Experience working with multiple stakeholders to accomplish goals
Prerequisites for Organization
  • A staff member and board (if one exists) committed to the project
  • Clearly articulated strategic plan and Organizational goals
  • A vision for your board that goes beyond fundraising

ATG produces new and classic works, primarily by American Playwrights, with an emphasis on the development of new works and the rediscovery of undeservedly neglected older ones. ATG engages audiences by making theater’s glorious possibilities accessible to the diverse community in which we live, through remarkable performances as well as quality arts-in-education programming.
