Project details

What we need
  • Document that articulates in a consistent voice key messages about the Organization’s identity, constituents, mission, and vision
  • Creation of taglines and talking points to help the Organization communicate clearly and concisely
  • Recommendations on tailoring messaging for common communication channels (e.g., website copy, printed marketing collateral, pitching verbally)
What we have in place
  • We have a team of two staff members who are partially dedicated to communications (among other roles). However, the summer is a slightly slower time, so you'll have an engaged team ready and willing to work with you.
How this will help
This project will save us $3,600 , allowing us to dedicate those resources to direct service to low-income older adults.

Selfhelp has three major programmatic areas that tend to operate and communicate in relatively separate ways. Despite efforts to infuse consistency, a number of programs send out their own materials without much review, leading to a range of tones and style. I'd like to create a sort of brand/style guide to share with staff to save time and create some consistency. Since this is the first time our organization has ever had something that resembles a style guide, I want to stick to the basics.

Our mission

Selfhelp is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to maintaining the independence and dignity of seniors and at-risk populations through a spectrum of housing, home health care, and social services and will lead in applying new methods and technologies to address changing needs of its community. Selfhelp will continue to serve as the "last surviving relative" to its historic constituency, victims of Nazi persecution.

What we do

Selfhelp Community Services was founded in 1936 to help those fleeing Nazi Germany maintain their independence and dignity as they struggled to forge new lives in America. Today, Selfhelp is one of the largest and most respected not-for-profit human service agencies in the New York metropolitan area, with 27 sites offering programs throughout Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens, the Bronx, Nassau County and Westchester. Selfhelp provides a broad set of services to more than 20,000 elderly, frail, and vulnerable New Yorkers each year, while remaining the largest provider of comprehensive services to Holocaust survivors in North America. We offer a complete network of home care and community-based services with the overarching goal of helping seniors live with dignity and independence and avoid institutionalization.
