I'm the new executive director of a non-profit state table organization in Arizona, One Arizona. We are a collective of thirty non-partisan groups across the state who come together around civic engagement work including voter registration, democracy defense, and elections protections. The organization has been paused for approximately 18 months while an interim ED was in place so the work load feels pressing right now. Advice on prioritizing and time management advice would be helpful.

What we have in place
  • We currently have a strategic plan with identified goals, which should make it easy for you to get started. We also have ten folks on staff, and the ability to provide any other information you need.
How this will help
This project will save us $2,968 , allowing us to focus on our work with our member organizations who work in historically marginalized communities to create more equitable and just systems through civic engagement.

It's important coaching that will help identify priorities and next steps and increase my skillset as an ED so I can better lead my team.

Prep: Initial Assessment
  • Professional and Volunteer Manager discuss perceived areas of strength, areas of improvement, and assess current organizational systems
  • Professional and Volunteer Manager decide on specific areas to focus on along with schedule and goals for each coaching session

Milestone 1: Coaching Sessions
  • In-depth coaching sessions on topics like setting professional boundaries, prioritization, organizational skills & systems implementation
  • Ensure each session is followed by a trial period to apply the skills and report back at subsequent sessions on the outcomes, learnings and follow-up questions

Milestone 2: Wrap-up & Learnings
  • Volunteer Manager and Professional evaluate lessons learned and progress made throughout coaching sessions, and decide on tool(s) (if appropriate) to aid in future organizing needs
  • Volunteer Manager and Professional discuss action steps and area(s) of focus going forward

Our mission

In the wake of SB 1070, four immigrant rights organizations came together with the goal of registering 12,000 Latino voters. Shortly afterwards, One Arizona was born.

More than a decade later, One Arizona is made up of 30 organizations active all over Arizona. We are completely nonpartisan, focused on improving the lives of Arizonans, especially people of color and young people, by building a culture of civic participation.

What we do

One Arizona was formed in 2010 as a direct response to the growing disenfranchisement of voters and to the attack on our Latinx community in the form of SB1070. Since then, One Arizona has grown to include 30 organizations representing diverse communities across the state, working side by side to build a culture of civic engagement and democratic participation, and registering over 600K voters, and counting. By working together, we've created deep and lasting change in the state we call home.

The work we do is not only transformative, but rooted in personal stories of struggle. Many of the leaders of our member organizations were children or young people who saw their families being targeted by SB1070. As we expanded to become a multi-faceted issue organization, we continue to listen to the voices of those impacted and led by the people who have lived through the struggles. That's why we strive to build long-lasting relationships with community members through ongoing programs, rather than election-only cycles.
