Project details
What we need
- An easily understood visual aid that communicates complex information
- A high-resolution version of the Infographic in the Organization’s preferred format
What we have in place
- We have a specific fundraising goal, lots of great photos and strong organizational branding. We have data on our growth in each division of our operations and a long list of needs to continue this growth.
How this will help
This project will save us $4,212 , allowing us to educate & support 1 farm apprentice for 10 weeks.
We need an infographic to communicate our growth and need for public support.
We are in the fifth year of our 5-year nonprofit probationary period and need to demonstrate that we have strong public support and engender more.
Our property was settled in 1652 by the ancestors of our founders, who over the past five years have started this nonprofit and donated this historic farm to us. Now it is in the hands of the public, and to maintain our public charity status, we need to encourage more direct public support.
Project plan
Our mission
To cultivate, preserve and share Sylvester Manor's lands, buildings and stories, inviting new thought about the importance of food, culture and place in our daily lives.
What we do
Sylvester Manor, Shelter Island’s 1652 homestead and the most intact plantation remnant north of Virginia, is now a nonprofit educational farm open to the public. Through farm-based education, local food programs, place-based arts performances and workshops, historic tours and cultural experiences, we offer meaningful ways to engage with our mission.
Once a Native American hunting and fishing ground, Sylvester Manor has been home to 11 generations of its original European settler family. It reflects a remarkably intact history of America’s evolving tastes, economies and landscapes.
Over time, the place has been transformed from a slaveholding provisioning plantation to an Enlightenment-era farm, then to a pioneering food industrialist’s estate and today to an organic educational farm responsive to, and supported by, neighbors and friends worldwide.
In light of this history, we envision a farm, a community, and a world where people celebrate food, arts, and inventiveness in the everyday, with a spirit of fairness and joy.
