Project details

What we need
  • Document that articulates in a consistent voice key messages about the Organization’s identity, constituents, mission, and vision
  • Creation of taglines and talking points to help the Organization communicate clearly and concisely
  • Recommendations on tailoring messaging for common communication channels (e.g., website copy, printed marketing collateral, pitching verbally)
What we have in place
  • In July, at our board retreat we were able to create a draft a vision statement and /or mission statement.
We have written an Agriculture assessment and an Energy assessment as well as various grant and other documents that area well put together. We have a great website, face book page with about 300 friends, although we have not tried twitter we are open to it. We have some press contacts, a donor list of about 600 names. We are able to provide most anything you might need for this project.
How this will help
This project will save us $3,600 , allowing us to provide mentorship to 300 Hawaiian students in our community.

Like every nonprofit story telling an important aspect of communicating with our funders, supporters and community.
Sustainable Molokai has rich community involvement and has been able to accomplish much in the last five years because of our grass roots organizing.
This project will allows to expand on that story and reach communities through out the Hawaiian Island, and expand on our goals to become food and energy secure and a model that will be easily replicated.

Our mission

The people of Molokai integrating the island’s legacy of aina momona (abundant land) with modern sustainability concepts to build a SUSTAINABLE MOLOKAI rooted in traditional knowledge and supported by emerging green practices and industries.

What we do

Sust'ainable Molokai is a grassroots non-profit organization committed to restoring the island's health and abundance, or aina momona. We aim to achieve this comprehensively via four thrusts: Food Self-Sufficiency; Economic Security; Energy Sovereignty; and Environmental Sustainability.
We have a 2 acre permaculture farm at the high school to teach classes to over 100 students weekly. Through our energy programs we have thus far help 360 families access energy star refrigerators saving them over one million dollars over the ten year period.
We also have three gardens in the elementary schools where we are able to reach 150 students and show them the whole growing cycle form green house to planting to eating! The sixth grade class even came up with their own Kale salad with Lemon and Honey dressing ( all locally grown). We have been able to integrate our mobile pizza oven into the school gardens showing kids and adults that all sorts of vegetables are good on pizza!
As the only island-wide non-profit organization focusing on these priorities, our vision is broad but our staff is purposefully small and efficient to maximize durability and resilience. We are grounded in our heritage, guided by our culture, and driven by modern, responsible sustainability strategies.
