Project details

What we need
  • A Membership Strategy document of 2-4 pages, including analysis of the Organization’s current membership program, step-by-step guide to a new or improved program, growth goals and creative outreach strategies
What we have in place
  • Currently, FIERCE has our own assessment of our base-building practices, flyers, contact cards, membership forms, training curriculum, outreach strategies, and database. Our Director of Organizing, one of our most dedicated senior staff members, will be coordinating this project.
How this will help
This project will save us $5,848 , allowing us to Engage and build with 200 queer, trans, and gender nonconforming youth of color.

FIERCE staff have worked to build effective recruiting strategies to bring more queer, trans, and gender nonconforming youth of color (QTGNCYOC) across the city of New York to FIERCE. However, as the climate, and safe spaces for QTGNCYOC have decreased over time, we have been faced with a low turnout and retention rate of our members. FIERCE staff have completed assessments and created new strategies to connect with QTGNCYOC and have been largely unsuccessful. At this point we would like to partner with a Catachafire volunteer who has experience with and who cares about QTGNCYOC in New York City.

Our mission

MISSION: FIERCE is a membership-based organization building the leadership and power of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ) youth of color in New York City. We develop politically conscious leaders who are invested in improving ourselves and our communities through youth-led campaigns, leadership development programs, and cultural expression through arts and media. FIERCE is dedicated to cultivating the next generation of social justice movement leaders who are dedicated to ending all forms of oppression.

What we do

FIERCE brings together queer, trans, and gender nonconforming youth of color between the ages of 13-24 to develop Direct Action Campaigns. We currently approach our work from an anti-police brutality, anti-gentrification, and access to public safe space for QTGNC youth of color inter-sectional lens. Our work includes:
Protest
Meeting with elected official
Participatory Action Research
Community building and cultural events
Leadership development and political education training with a popular education lens and framework
Member-led committee meetings
