What We Do

Environmental Defense Fund (EDF) is a global leader in partnering with business for strong environmental and bottom line results. We have a 20-year track record working hand in hand with corporate leaders to unleash environmental innovation while demonstrating that good environmental strategy is good business strategy.

In working with business, we strive to achieve big, bold goals for industry-wide transformation. We’ve created cleaner trucks with FedEx, cut packaging waste with Walmart, and helped KKR systematically improve performance of its portfolio companies, among other examples. Our objective is to create a green "race to the top" between companies, spurring innovation throughout entire industries and sending a strong signal about the potential and profitability of environmental sustainability.

At EDF, we collaborate with companies as partners, not consultants. The environment is our only client, and businesses our partners in serving that client. We accept no funds from the companies we work with – generous individuals and foundations fund our work, which enables us to maintain our independence and credibility.
