What We Do

BRAC is the world's first international NGO based in the Global South, founded in 1972 and based in Dhaka, Bangladesh. It currently reaches over 126 million people in 11 countries, delivering a holistic package of services to the poor through models that feature the poor themselves in key decision-making and service delivery roles.

BRAC works in financial services, health, education, agriculture, legal education and empowerment, water/sanitation/hygiene and disaster preparedness. It also operates 16 social enterprises and has launched five social businesses, all connected to its original mission, which also generate a surplus that funds 70-80 percent of its development program budget in Bangladesh. BRAC USA is a nonprofit affiliate, based in New York City, that was created in 2006 to support and advance BRAC's mission and expansion around the world.
