Mission
The Ashraya Initiative for Children is dedicated to improving the lives and shaping the futures of vulnerable children in Pune, India by advancing educational opportunities, nurturing holistic development and building healthy, empowered communities.What We Do
The Ashraya Initiative for Children is a non-profit organization located in Pune, India that works with street children and their communities of origin to address the circumstances that result in children living and working on the streets. AIC was founded in 2004 by seven college students around the globe and continues as an engaging, international project to this day.Our focus areas include four distinct programs:
- The Residential Program, housing twelve children;
- The Education Outreach Program, supporting the education of more than 200 children in the Waghri and Sikligar community slums;
- The Health Outreach Program, promoting improved health in the slums through education, healthcare and community mobilization;
- The Community Outreach Program, focusing on community building and development through legal advocacy workshops, adult literacy classes, vocational training and micro-credit savings groups.
