The Americans Overseas Domestic Violence Crisis Center, and our sexual assault program SASHAA, works with abused Americans in foreign countries to provide domestic violence, sexual assault and child abuse advocacy, resources and tools so that they can navigate the complicated jurisdictional, legal and social international landscapes, to be able to live their lives free of abuse either in the foreign country or back in the United States.
Population Served: We serve the estimated 6.5 Americans living overseas, the 68 million Americans traveling overseas annually, and the 750,000 American military personnel and dependents overseas.
What We Do
We operate a 24/7 internationally toll free hotline, crisis email and live chat. Our crisis line is answered by case managers and advocates that deliver comprehensive services via a trauma informed response including safety planning,emotional support, danger to safety relocations, immediate shelter or hotel rooms, counseling, legal assistance with one of our pro-bono attorneys and assistance with emergency needs such as the issuance of American passports, certificates of birth abroad or other necessary documents.
