Mission

The mission of America SCORES New York (ASNY) is to empower students in urban communities using soccer, writing, creative expression, and service-learning. With teamwork as the unifying value, we inspire youth to lead healthy lifestyles, be engaged students, and have the courage and confidence to make a difference in the world.

What We Do

America SCORES New York was founded in 2001 to help address the absence of high-quality after-school programs for public schools in the low-income communities of West Harlem and Washington Heights, two of NYC’s most socio-economically challenged communities. Public school budgets in Harlem and Washington Heights cannot always include enriching after-school activities. We provide a sense of belonging and empowerment that is needed by our poet-athletes. The opportunity to participate in meaningful activities with a team can change their lives. We provide a free program that engages students during otherwise unsafe hours and binds them to positive peer groups, teachers and school. We provide 374 3rd-8th grade students with our full curriculum of soccer and poetry in NYC. Including outreach programming, Jr SCORES (K-2) programming, summer camps, club and alumni programs, we will impact over 600 at-risk NYC youth this year.
