Angels for Mistreated Animals (AMA Animal Rescue) is a Brooklyn based, no-kill animal shelter whose mission is to rescue, rehabilitate and find loving homes for extreme cases of abused and neglected cats and dogs.

What We Do

The AMA Animal Rescue is a Brooklyn-based, no-kill, not-for-profit animal shelter that opened its doors and hearts to abandoned dogs and cats in 2014 and has been helping precious animals in need ever since. The AMA is the only active animal shelter in the Southern Brooklyn area that accepts the most challenging physically and emotionally abused animals.

The animals arrive at the shelter in horrible conditions that pull at the heartstrings of the medical team and volunteer staff. Most are found wandering the streets, severely malnourished and or injured. Others come from kill shelters or are dropped off by their humans as if they were a piece of trash. The animals are dirty, hungry, frightened, physically and emotionally ill, and lonely. Many are seniors and deserve to live out their remaining time on earth with dignity.

Upon intake, all animals are given medical treatment, including spaying, neutering, treatment for acute and chronic illnesses, and behavioral rehabilitation. Some have severe physical ailments and behavioral issues, typical for abandoned, abused, and surrendered animals. Addressing their dire conditions takes considerable time, leading to increased costs and prolonged rehabilitation. However, there is no time limit for the dogs and cats waiting to be adopted. The care they receive during rehabilitation is of the highest standard! They stay as long as needed, being blanketed with treatment, love, and attention until they are ready to be placed in their forever home.
