Mission
The Alliance for African American Health in Central Texas' (AAAHCT) mission is to improve the health status of African Americans living in Central Texas. AAAHCT seeks to engage people at the grassroots level to identify issues and challenges individuals and families face in achieving optimal health and organizing with residents to address them.
What We Do
Much of our work focuses on health promotion and disease prevention. Two examples are A Better Me (ABM) and Intergenerational Gardening Soul to Soul (IGS2). ABM assists individuals in setting and achieving physical activity and nutrition goals to prevent or better manage chronic diseases. IGS2 pairs youth teams, supervised by an adult, with a senior to build and maintain a vegetable garden at the seniors' home. This program also addresses food sovereignty and financial empowerment.
