In general I would like to work on my presentation skills for media and grant interviews. In my career life I gave technical presentations, but those are different what is required for my nonprofit presentations. I would like to be better prepared for TV interviews, interviews for grants, and presentations for grants. I will be making a presentation in 1 week and realize this project won't be completed by then, but there will be more requirements like this in the future.
What we have in place
- I don't have any examples of presentations at this time, but I may be able to record the presentation I am giving on Jan 24 and we can use that for determining areas of improvement.
There are 2 co-founders of Cape Ivy. Meg designed the ponchos for her son and makes the ponchos in memory of her son. She has the 'heartfelt' side of the story. I am more the businessperson who writes grants and press releases. As a result, I also need to be able to make an impassioned presentation.
How this will help
This project will save us $8,660 , allowing us to provide over 850 more ponchos to hospitalized children.
The success of Cape Ivy relies on our ability to become known and to receive donations. Cape Ivy is an all-volunteer organization. We don't pay a marketing person or a fundraiser. It is up to the co-founders (with help from the Board of Directors) to raise funds. I need to present the nonprofit in a way that encourages people to get involved and/or support Cape Ivy.

Our mission
The mission of Cape Ivy is to provide warmth, comfort and support to children who have chronic or critical illnesses and their families. Cape Ivy provides fleece ponchos to children in the hospital because robes, sweaters and jackets don't work well with IV lines and other medical equipment. Cape Ivy is a resource for families experiencing long-term hospitalization of children.
Testimonials
Vesta provided valuable information in our initial 'interview' talk before we even started the project. With that information, I was able to create a presentation and a video of me delivering the presentation. She evaluated the content and my delivery and provided recommendations for improvement. She also provided feedback on a 2nd video. One of my barriers was starting and another was I didn't like being on camera. I was able to get past those. I feel more confident now but know I have more work to do on my own.
