Project details

What we need
  • A dashboard in Excel or Google Sheets that visualizes key performance indicators (KPIs), with data from up to 3 sources
  • Training on how to consistently update the dashboard for ongoing use
  • Optional: Training on how to edit dashboard and execute on formulas and functions that will allow for its evolution
Additional details

I'd like help creating a dashboard in google sheets. I currently use pivot tables and have them set up and linked to 4 different tabs in google sheets, but would like help cleaning this up and making a dashboard that is very easy for my coworkers to view and understand and pull information from. The data seems fairly simple to me, counts of classes taught by various categories, food harvests, volunteer hours, etc. I'd also like to learn data visualization as a follow up to this project.

What we have in place
  • We currently have raw data, google sheets tables, pivot tables, which should make it easy for you to get started. We also have a person who manages the data, and the ability to provide any other information you need.
How this will help
This project will save us $4,828 , allowing us to provide more education for our students.

This is important because it makes applying for grants easier when data is ready and easily accessible to the developement team. It is also useful in sharing our accomplishments with the schools that we work with. We are a non-profit that teaches cooking and gardening to kids at public schools in Los Angeles.

  • Professional and Volunteer Manager outline next steps and timeline for the project
  • Volunteer Manager shares the necessary raw data files with the Professional
1
Milestone 1: Dashboard Creation & Feedback

  • Professional shares the dashboard with the Volunteer Manager and explains how the dashboard depicts the desired KPIs
  • Volunteer Manager provides any feedback on the dashboard (up to two rounds)
  • Professional implements feedback and provides a revised dashboard
2
Milestone 2: Training
  • Professional creates guidelines for continued maintenance and update of the dashboard
  • Professional reviews the guidelines with Volunteer Manager
  • Professional is available for up to four weeks to address questions and troubleshoot as Volunteer Manager starts to regularly use the dashboard
3
Milestone 3 (Optional): Additional Advanced Training
  • Professional trains the Volunteer Manager on the key formulas, tables and charts that are used to create the dashboard, and how to make edits to them if needs evolve
  • Professional directs the Volunteer Manager to further relevant resources or an Excel Training project

Our mission

Garden School Foundation provides in-depth garden-based education to youth at Title I schools in Los Angeles, strengthening connections between food justice, environmental awareness, and community health in historically underserved neighborhoods. By using the full transformative potential of school gardens as teaching sites, we nurture a healthy and mindful generation of children that care for their bodies, their communities, and the earth. We currently serve eight Title I elementary schools, reaching over 3,000 students and their families each year.

What we do

Recognizing that education, poverty, food justice, and health are deeply linked, our Seed to Table program of hands-on, garden-based education is designed to maximize the transformative potential of school gardens. We serve students from Kinder through 5th grade in a year-round program that is much more in-depth than most school garden offerings. Designed to engage a child over the entire course of six years of elementary school, our Standards-aligned lessons bring academic concepts to life through real-world, outdoor experiences. The program encourages exploration, critical thinking, and teamwork as children learn how to collaboratively grow, harvest, cook, and eat their own healthy foods, as well as how they can impact both the broader environment and their own communities.

Students visit the garden during the school day every other week, alternating between science-based gardening and nutritional cooking classes. These learning experiences extend to students' families and the surrounding community through monthly Community Garden Days and other events. At each school site, classes are led by a trained GSF Garden Educator who maintains the garden as a living laboratory, works with classroom teachers to complement their instruction, conducts outreach to the school community and broader neighborhood, coordinates garden volunteers, and facilitates extended learning opportunities, including after school clubs and weekend community garden workdays.

Testimonials

Lisa was amazing to work with! She was so organized and excellent at taking innitiative. She knew what I wanted before I knew what I wanted. Lisa did an amazing job setting up a google data dashboard to track the daily and nnual stats that our non profit enters. She helped clean up the data and spreadsheets we were using, adding some new features that made them more user friendly. Lisa linked all of our raw data into the dashboard and created different pages for different reporting areas. Lisa was always on time and ready to work, and she completed tasks thoroughly in between our meetings. She was communicative and explained everything clearly to me before we finished. I would highly recommend Lisa to work with! Thanks!
