Project details

What we need
  • A concise, well-articulated letter (not exceeding two pages) to request funds from individual donors
Additional details

Hello,
We are preparing to draft out End-of-year letter to individual donors with multiple opportunities to support us including an endowment campaign and end of year giving. I need help in drafting a letter which will incorporate those giving options in a warm, friendly tone reflective of our organization.

What we have in place
  • We currently have Marketing materials and previous letters for reference, which should make it easy for you to get started. We also have our website, and the ability to provide any other information you need.
How this will help
This project will save us $1,840 , allowing us to channel those funds to our artisan stipends.

We are 3 months into a year long unique endowment creation campaign of which I can share materials with whomever works with us. There is a minimum donation for the match of the endowment. In addition, we are using the same letter to appeal to donors who support us at lower levels. Our advisor on the endowment suggested combining the various giving opportunities together and that is much easier for us to manage.

Our mission

The Hartford Artisans Weaving Center is a supportive and creative community that is preserving, promoting, and teaching the craft of hand-weaving. We teach classes for all ages, curate exhibits and sales, and run a unique artisan program. The artisan program teaches weaving to the blind and visually-impaired, and anyone 55 and older.

What we do

The Weaving Center is the only organization in the U.S. that uses weaving to address the social and occupational needs of seniors and the blind.

Although our approach is unique, we know that the needs we address are all too common. Why do we believe in the positive impact of hand weaving in a group setting? Creating art in a supportive learning environment overlaps with well-documented research on the health benefits of socialization and creativity.

Many of our adult students and artisans are retired, or have been excluded from the workforce due to disability or changes in health. This has limited their earning potential, and opportunities for creativity, socialization, and learning new things.

In January 2020, NPR highlighted recent research in a piece called, "Making Art is Good for Your Health. Here's How to Start a Habit." The studies suggest that consistent "creation can reduce stress and anxiety and improve your mood." Plus, "flexing our creative side can give us a stronger sense of agency--the ability to solve problems by imagining possible solutions."

Medical studies have consistently shown that social isolation is a physical and mental health risk for aging populations and adults with disabilities. The U.S. Census Bureau indicates that 15% of Hartford County residents are over the age of 60. Of those, 30% live alone.

With instruction for adults, youth, and blind and senior artisans happening concurrently at times throughout the year, the center is always abuzz with conversations between people from different generations and cultural backgrounds.

Testimonials

Cree was a pleasure to work with on this project. She provided suggestions and inspiration on a wealth of topics which we needed. Her drafts for our targeted Individual Donor Letters were excellent and I look forward to our continued collaboration on other projects.

Individual Donor Letter Project

This was a terrific project! The Hartford Artisans Weaving Center is a truly unique and innovative organization with a great back story and a compelling mission. I greatly enjoyed working with Ann on their year-end appeal as well as brainstorming on an endowment campaign, spring donor campaign, and additional fundraising and programming ideas.
