Online Survey
Online Survey
Project details
What we need
- A professionally designed online survey ready to use (set up with Google Forms, SurveyMonkey, Typeform, SurveyLegend, or other tool)
- Training to equip staff to execute and manage survey
Additional details
At ALTA our main program is an annual conference. Last year we held it virtually, and this year we're holding both a virtual portion and an in-person portion.
We always send a participant survey afterwards, and this year's survey will be crucial: we will rely on participant feedback on both formats to decide what format(s) to run next year.
I'm looking for help (re)designing our participant survey to generate data we can analyze for our future decision-making.
What we have in place
- We currently have a SurveyMonkey account, which should make it easy for you to get started. We also have copies of past surveys for this program, and the ability to provide any other information you need.
How this will help
This project will save us $4,828 , allowing us to keep costs for our conference low, thus facilitating participation for a more diverse audience.
ALTA is a membership organization: our first priority is meeting members' needs. But the COVID-19 pandemic has hit our organization hard. We shifted our programs virtually, and truly strived to meet our community's changing needs in this difficult time. But our community also has changing needs due to the pandemic. We know this survey is a crucial opportunity to listen to their feedback, learn how our programming is meeting their needs and how it's not - and then change it for the better.

Our mission
The mission of the American Literary Translators Association is to support the work of literary translators, advance the art of literary translation, and serve translators, and the students, teachers, publishers, and readers of literature in translation.
What we do
The American Literary Translators Association is a nonprofit arts membership association that provides resources, community, and professional affiliation to its members: individual translators, academic institutions, presses, and others working in literary translation.
The annual ALTA conference, held in a different location each year, is the largest gathering of literary translators in the United States, and the only one of its kind. ALTA also administers awards to recognize excellence in translation, and provides fellowships and mentorships to support emerging translators.
