What we need
WAGES has been selected as one of 11 finalists for the Diehl Family Social Enterprise Competition for our proposal to create a cooperative social enterprise to sell paletas -- Mexican popsicles. We received a $5K prize, and are now in the running to receive up to $50K to help start the business. Four of the 11 finalists will receive the prize, so we have a great shot, but we need help. The competition requires that we submit a polished, compelling business plan. The judges will select the prize-winners based upon these criteria.
What do we need? We have an already-created business plan, which was drafted for us by food entrepreneur consultants Foodcentricity (the consultant used to own a Paleteria!)
What we have in place
- We have in place:
1) A business developer who is already doing R&D, market testing;
2) A key partner, La Cocina, our kitchen incubator partner;
3) The Associate Director of WAGES will be your day-to-day contact;
4) Sound market research and financials already created by our consultant Foodcentricity
5) A track record of success in incubating cooperatives.
How this will help
This project will save us $8,908 , allowing us to Launch 1 Social enterprise that will transform lives.
We believe that our economy is ready for an extraordinary change, and we can start by building businesses that empower workers. We partner with low-income Latina immigrants to build co-ops—collectively owned, local businesses—because when women have ownership over their lives and work, they can transform their families and communities. We are a finalist for a social enterprise competition, and have a 4 in 11 chance of winning $50K towards launching our new cooperative. You can help us win this prize!

Our mission
Prospera advances Latina economic empowerment through leadership development, entrepreneurship and cooperative business ownership. We believe that when women are at the forefront of our local economies, entire communities thrive.
What we do
Prospera offers leadership and entrepreneurship programs that respond to the unique challenges and the immense resourcefulness that Latina immigrant women bring. We use a popular education approach because we believe Latina women own powerful experiences that make them strong entrepreneurs and natural promoters of social change. Through our culturally specific programs and Prospera's extensive network of partners, Latina entrepreneurs access the networks, the tools and the financial resources they need to launch, grow, and become successful owners of cooperative enterprises
Testimonials
Our team could not have more enjoyed working with Martin through this large endeavor. He contributed invaluable expertise and insight, paid close attention to detail, and was an integral resource in completing our Business Plan in a very short amount of time.
I very much enjoyed working with Sarah and the WAGES team. Sarah is passionately dedicated to the cause, very friendly, and a wonderful collaborator. I am very excited to have helped WAGES as they launch another successful co-op and diversify into food products. I would definitely work with WAGES in the future if given the opportunity.
