  • We currently have A strong foundation and vision for the organization, which should make it easy for you to get started. We also have a strong executive director, and the ability to provide any other information you need.
How this will help
This project will save us $2,397 , allowing us to save money for more materials and traveling to debate other teams.

It will help us gain more exposure which may lead to more funding.

Executive Director- Umoja Debate Team

Our mission

Umoja Debate Team is a nonprofit organization based on the West Side of Detroit, MI. The goal of the organization is to teach students ages 12-15 how to debate and give them opportunities for self-expression, while teaching:
Positive conflict resolution skills
The importance of unity
Confidence in public speaking
Increasing Literacy: Becoming skilled readers, writers, speakers, listeners, and thinkers

What we do

We teach Detroit youth how to gain positive conflict resolution skills and gain confidence in public speaking through the practice of debate.
