Project details

What we need
  • Audit of existing Employee Handbook, or internal communications regarding employment policies
  • Edit or creation of a new Employee Handbook, which may include any of the following: Standards of Conduct, Work Schedules, Leave Policies, Termination Policies, Safety and Security, Anti-Discrimination policies, Compensation and Benefits policies, any Non-Disclosure Agreements or Conflict of Interest statements that may apply, and any other pertinent information
Additional details

Over the past year our organization has transitioned from a traditional CEO/top down model to a distributed leadership model. In light of this and other changes, we are in the process of revising out employee handbook and employee policies.

We would prefer someone with knowledge of the intricacies of Maine workplace regulations, but that is not required.

What we have in place
  • We currently have an old copy of our employee handbook, which should make it easy for you to get started. We also have our distributed leadership model, and the ability to provide any other information you need.
How this will help
This project will save us $4,330 , allowing us to focus more of our resources - both financial and staff hours - on providing educational services, such as our experiential learning high school program.

This project is crucial to the operation of our organization in general. We provide a variety of educational services to our community and want to treat each other with fairness and respect as staff members. Our transition to being a staff-led organization is a tricky one with many pitfalls, and clear and fair HR policies are crucial for its success. We hope to create a model for other small organizations to practice leadership that is both democratic and effective.

I really enjoyed working with Damon and the review team! We came together weekly to review the Employee Handbook line-by-line and successfully got the approval from the Board of Directors...they expressed their appreciation and their happiness regarding the final outcome.
