Project details

What we need
  • Audit of existing Employee Handbook, or internal communications regarding employment policies
  • Edit or creation of a new Employee Handbook, which may include any of the following: Standards of Conduct, Work Schedules, Leave Policies, Termination Policies, Safety and Security, Anti-Discrimination policies, Compensation and Benefits policies, any Non-Disclosure Agreements or Conflict of Interest statements that may apply, and any other pertinent information
Additional details

We currently have a number of organizational policies and supporting documents, but lack a comprehensive employee handbook to unify them. We've developed these policies and documents over time though support and feedback from our board, staff, and consultants, and would benefit from direct professional review and support identifying and working to close caps in our policies.

What we have in place
  • We currently have multiple existing policies and documents, which should make it easy for you to get started. We also have some systems for documentation, forms, and online platforms, and the ability to provide any other information you need.
How this will help
This project will save us $2,430 , allowing us to better support the employees, their success and development, so we can all do a better job achieving our mission and living our values.

We are a relatively young organization that has evolved rapidly in our early stages. In doing so, we've tried to grow in a way that has been responsive to our company needs while also accommodating new team members. Now, as we're positioned to grow, we have a much clearer sense of the various relationships, expectations, roles and responsibilities, and systems that support our work in an ongoing way.

Our mission

unCommon Construction uses the build process to empower youth with the skills, network, resources, and experience to lead the workforce after high school or college.

What we do

Through unCommon's high school apprenticeship program, students from different schools apply to join a diverse team to earn hourly pay and school credit for building a house in a semester. Upon the sale of each home, apprentices also earn a matching "Equity Award" scholarship for further education, industry certifications or the tools they need for a full-time job. With 100+ hours of experience in a real-world learning environment per semester, apprentices develop skills and relationships that last as long as the house they use to do so.
