We’re celebrating National Volunteer Month & the incredible 762,592 hours given by Catchafire volunteers! Nonprofits wanted to say thank you - watch the video!
We are putting together our first-ever annual report and we are looking to convey our non-profit's story in a compelling way.
OUR MISSION: We create volunteer opportunities to address community needs and to inspire youth for a lifetime commitment to service.
Youth Volunteer Corps has four goals:
1. To engage youth in service projects that are challenging, rewarding, and educational.
2. To serve the unmet needs of the community and its residents.
3. To promote among youth a greater understanding and appreciation for the diversity of their community.
4. To promote a lifetime ethic of service among youth.
Youth Volunteer Corps of Hampton Roads (YVCHR) has been providing young people with meaningful opportunities to make a difference since 2009. Since that time, over 2,600 students between the ages of 11 and 18 have served over 66,000 hours in our community, positively impacting over 50 non-profits and other recipient agencies. We connect youth to projects that are supervised and facilitated by YVCHR staff; team leaders incorporate team-building activities, service-learning lessons and time for reflection into each volunteer experience. Within this framework, youth learn the importance of volunteering and elevate their own self-confidence and self-efficacy in the process. By serving in a variety of settings and with diverse populations, our participants gain career-readiness and life skills, develop cross-cultural competencies, and are inspired to embrace an ethic of service that extends into adulthood.
